The Way You Do Anything Is The Way You Do Everything

I wanted to talk to you about a really important principle that can have a huge impact on our lives, and can provide us with the catalyst to change recurring patterns:

The way you do anything, is the way you do everything.

Take a look at your life, your commitments, your schedule, your physical space, your routines, etc. and see where this principle is true for you.

How do you treat appointments? Do you arrive on time? early? Do you arrive flustered? calm and relaxed? Do you reschedule appointments over and over again?

How do you handle work situations? Do you allow them completely consume you? Do you compartmentalize them? Do you stand firm? Do you back out of commitments or decisions? Do you come up with creative solutions? Do you stick with what you already know?

How do you schedule your day? Do you go with the flow? Do you create blocks of time? Do you allow others to control your schedule? Do you stick to your schedule? Do you even have a schedule?

How do you treat and relate with family & friends? Do you open up fully? Do you give more than you receive? Do you share yourself with them? Do you keep in touch regularly? Do you talk or meet regularly? Do you adjust your behavior/schedule/needs to match theirs?

These are just some examples of questions you can ask, keep going with others that seem relevant to you. Once you’ve answered these questions, ask yourself how each of those answers relates to other areas of your life. Where else do you exhibit that tendency or behavior? I like to encourage people to look at these answers with respect to their health and to their goals. This can often be one of the keys to determining why we sabotage ourselves when setting goals.

So take a few minutes and take stock of how you do things. Then start noticing patterns that reflect this principle.

The way you do anything, is the way you do everything.

In joy,

Claudia
